I came across this recent article online in Issue 6 of the Wales Arts Review. I was shocked by what I read and had to share it for all the Internet accessed to see.

The article discusses the effects of the Government in Britain reducing the airplay of music in the Welsh language.

Welsh is a minority language in Wales, Britain. It was there before English. I feel patriotic towards both languages, although more affectionate to Welsh

Restriction is happening to a minority language and culture.

The article by Elin Williams entitled "Miles Beyond Glyndwr What Does The Future Hold For Welsh Language Music?" outlines some of the responses and results of this affair.

Here's a taster of what it has to say:

If the incentive is to be broadcast and to be generally successful as a Welsh artist, what happens when that output is taken away?

We have a musical history which is so rich and distinctive, it’s almost unbelievable that...

Surely it’s more important to take things into our own hands and create something which increases the demand for Welsh music?

...the Welsh Language Act of 1993 requires English and Welsh to be treated equally throughout the public sector. Most Western languages have their basic rights, and in this day and age, one of those rights is its media output.
